THIS IS NOT A LIST OF BOOKS FOR EVERYONE TO GO OUT AND BUY.
In this post: Stick Control, The All American Drummer, The Drummer's Complete Vocabulary, Master Studies, Syncopation, Modern Reading Text in 4/4, Alfred's Beginners Drumset Method, Advanced Funk Studies, Drum Standards, The Art of Bop Drumming, Beyond Bop Drumming
These are the books I have used with Intermediate and Advanced students. I use the words "Intermediate" and "Advanced" somewhat loosely, it's all relative and sometimes not easy to categorise students with these terms, but in general these books are useful.
The categories are also a little bit arbitrary, because some "technique" books we can use for other things; the Syncopation book has a variety of uses.
I repeat: THIS IS NOT A LIST OF BOOKS FOR EVERYONE TO GO OUT AND BUY. Only get these if / when you need them. If you're at the point where you might be learning or practising stuff out of these books you should be spending your money on CDs, live music, etc anyway rather than buying books you don't need.
SNARE DRUM / TECHNIQUE
Stick Control (for the Snare Drummer)
Title: Stick Control (for the Snare Drummer)
Author: George Lawrence Stone

The All-American Drummer: 150 Rudimental Solos
I cringe a bit at the title, but I do use these solos with some students. It's another classic.
Author: Charley Wilcoxin
Publisher: Ludwig Music
The Drummer's Complete Vocabulary (as taught by Alan Dawson)
The title is a complete overstatement, but there is some interesting stuff in this book, including the "Rudimental Ritual" and various "jazz independence" exercises, some of which are useful.
Title: The Drummer's Complete Vocabulary (as taught by Alan Dawson)
Author: John Ramsay
Publisher: Manhattan Music Publications / Alfred Publications
Master Studies
This is a book by my old teacher (Jim Piesse)'s teacher, Joe Morello. Morello has descibed it as an extension to "Stick Control", above, which was written by his teacher.

READING
The Syncopation Book
Aka Progressive Steps To Syncopation
This is a classic and one that I've used a fair bit with students at various levels. I would put this one in the "essential" category.
Title: Progressive Steps to Syncopation For the Modern Drummer
Author: Ted ReedPublisher: Alfred Publishing
Modern Reading Text in 4/4
I put this in the "essential" category for any students that really want to work on their reading. There is also an "Odd Time Reading Text" by the same authors which I don't tend to use much, best to get through this one first.
Title: Modern Reading Text in 4/4
Authors: Louis Bellson / Gil Breines
Publisher: Alfred Publishing
DRUM KIT / BEATS
Alfred's Beginners Drumset Method
This is a 'beginners' book but I use it with some students that have been playing even for a few years because we can make the exercises more challenging. This is generally the first book for drum kit that I use.
Title: Alfred's Beginners Drumset Method
Author: Dave Black & Sandy Feldstein
Publisher: Alfred Publishing
Advanced Funk Studies
Title: Advanced Funk Studies

The Syncopation Book - see above
Drum Standards
This is a collection of drum solos, they're all good and I've used it with students who are developing their soloing.

The Art of Bop Drumming / Beyond Bop Drumming
I sometimes use bits from this pair of books from John Riley. Obviously the second is more advanced.
